| Schizophrenia | | Schizophrenia is a serious psychiatric disorder suffered by almost one person in every hundred. The disorder is suffered equally by men and women. Schizophrenia generally reveals itself for the first time between the ages of sixteen and thirty. Schizophrenia is characterised by the development of psychoses. These are periods during which contact with reality is severely disturbed. A person may be extremely confused and anxious, have problems with hallucinations and/or delusions. Schizophrenia is incurable but is treatable by means of medication and psychological support. BMS has major medications available for the treatment of schizophrenia. Disorders in the central nervous system, including schizophrenia, Alzheimer and dementia are major areas of attention in the research and development of new medications at BMS. | | | | | | | | | |
